Security Camera Installation: The Definite Guide

Maintaining and preserving security at home is one of the main problems of society. The security cameras, as a safety, provide reassurance to the home. It allows you to see the images in real-time from a computer, tablet, or mobile phone with an Internet connection. The key to this task is to choose the most important strategic points where to orient the cameras.

There are several types of security cameras available in the market. Therefore, the security camera installation methods depend on the model chosen and the type of surveillance desired.

Security Camera Installation: Step by Step

To install a security camera, you will need a camera that includes

  • An installation CD,
  • An ID card, an adapter,
  • An Ethernet cable,
  • Anchors and screws,
  • A two-gigabyte micro SD card and,
  • A router with an internet connection

You can also have a night vision camera fixed and does not allow modifying the image. Besides, if you want to fix the camera to the wall, you will also need a drill.

STEP 1: Fix the camera

Position and orient the cameras in strategic locations, either on the ceiling or on the wall. The camera itself has enough mobility to orient itself towards the area that interests you.

Mark the point where you want the camera to go on the wall with a pencil. Remember to wear work gloves.

STEP 2: Drill and tack

In addition to work gloves, wear goggles that protect you from debris that may be expelled when drilling.

STEP 3: Screw the camera to the wall

Use a screwdriver and make sure the camera is secure. Do the same with the second camera.

STEP 4: Connect the cable

Each camera is connected to the recorder by a 21-meter cable that is included in the kit. Separate the two pieces that make up the gutter; peel off the protective tape and fix the base.

Extend the cable and put the cover on the gutter.

STEP 5: Connect the recorder

Once the cameras are installed, it is time to make the connections on the recorder following the manufacturer’s instructions:

  • Plug the part labeled DVR into the power input.
  • Connect the transformer with the power cable that will be plugged in.

STEP 6: Connect the cameras

The cameras have two connections, one for video and one for power. Follow the instructions to make the connections correctly.

STEP 7: Connect the monitor

You have to connect the monitor (HDMI), the mouse (USB), and the router (LAN).

Choosing the Right Location for A Security Camera

The right location is the one that gives you a clear view of the area you want to control visually. So, for example, you will install your surveillance camera on the wall facing the front door. Or you can install it on the least exposed wall of your living room.

Unsurprisingly, the device needs to be located at a height. So it will offer a bird’s eye view and an unobstructed view of the room.

The choice of location also depends on the objective one seeks to achieve. For a security camera, we generally prefer a rather discreet place. So, the possible crime is not able to hide from the eye of the security system.

However, you can take the opposite approach and choose to install your surveillance camera in a clearly visible way. In this case, it plays a dissuasive role.

Whatever the purpose, installing a surveillance camera still requires some preliminary checks to ensure its effectiveness. If it is a wireless model, the Wi-Fi coverage quality at the selected location should be checked. You must then ensure that there is an electrical outlet nearby.

Finally, special attention should be paid to light exposure and position in relation to light sources and windows.

An example? You don’t want your surveillance camera to be dazzled and unable to render images as soon as the sun hits. However, powerful modern sensors with high contrast situations are difficult to manage for a surveillance camera. In this context, the device risks delivering images that are difficult to use.

You plan to equip your home with a camera to secure people and prevent the risk of burglary and intrusion. But security camera installation outdoor has some issues to check. Legal constraints such as the prohibition on filming neighboring property and public roads should also be considered. So our recommendation will be to consult a serrurier huy if needed.
