Whether you want to grow crops or flowers in your backyard, you will need the essential tools that every gardener needs to have. You do not need to buy a lot of gardening tools. But, you might want to own the primary garden tools that would help maintain your garden- container garden, vertical garden, whatever kind of garden, so much easier.

Gloves

Gardening can sometimes cause pain in our hands. Gardeners can never get away from the splintery and thorny plants in the backyard. So, it is essential to have more than one pair of gloves in our garden toolbox. Remember to buy gloves that are not too bulky. All of your gloves must also be durable. You might also want to buy gloves that fit your hands properly to avoid slipping. Lastly, do not expose your gloves to sunlight. Also, make sure that they are safe from pests and insects. 

Trowel

Hand trowels are essential tools when gardening. They help dig and move the soil effortlessly, and they are also a helpful tool to remove stubborn weeds. Gardeners use slightly curved forks to scoop mulch and turn compost piles, whereas forks with straight tines are best when breaking up rocky, compacted, or clay soil. 

Rake

Aside from gathering and clearing twigs from your garden, you can also use rakes when clearing loose debris in your garden. You can also use them to break up soil and level out your planting beds. 

Garden spade

These are square-shaped shovels with short handles. Garden spades are efficient tools to dig holes for your plants, edging the garden beds, moving dirt from one place to another, and picking up the sods. Secateurs

This is one of the most-used gardening tools in your toolbox. You use this garden tool to cut off extra stems or plants that need trimming. Nice quality secateurs can cut through 3/4 inch stems or branches. However, do not try cutting thick stems using this tool because they might cause them to break. Gardeners also use secateurs when they are deadheading. 

Wheelbarrow

A wheelbarrow is ideal to use when moving extra soil in your garden. You can use it to transfer mulch or compost that you want to put in your planting beds. You can also use it to lift heavy objects around your garden. Remember to clean it after using it and store it in a dry place to avoid rusting.  Always check if the wheels are properly inflated for better wheeling.
