Odd Shed Uses That Actually Make Sense

Storage sheds are just large boxes where people tend to fill with things they don’t usually use. With the advent of the internet and cheaper building materials, the humble shed became subject to numerous D.I.Y. projects. Gone are the days when sheds were the void where gardening tools are lost. Sheds are the new multipurpose rooms.

Playhouse

Wooden tool sheds are a thing of the past – they look terrible, termites live in them, and wood doesn’t blend well with modern houses. Instead of spending an entire summer building a treehouse, you can always build a playhouse on the ground where the risk of falling is zero.

Kids can be destructive sometimes, and we don’t want that inside the house. A playhouse can be your kids’ favourite room once you fill it with toys and games. With playhouses, your kids can roughhouse all day without you fearing for your living room.

Mancave

The mancave is the closest thing to the Fortress of Solitude or the Batcave. The mancave serves as every boy’s, rather, man’s sanctuary and owning one are common goals. Traditionally, man caves are repurposed basements, but you can create one with a shed. Similar to a playhouse, you will have to fill this with entertainment systems and décor.

Recording Studio

Look anywhere in your house, and the only room you’ll find with good acoustics is in the bathroom. A recording studio requires soundproofing and good acoustics, none of which is present in a shed. However, with a few modifications using soundproofing materials, your shed can be as good as a professional recording studio – the size and simple structure of a shed should be easy enough for anyone to soundproof.

Greenhouse

If you’re into planting, you might have already considered converting your shed into a greenhouse. It’s only a matter of replacing the roof with glass panels, and you’re done. Greenhouses are a great way to control the climate for plants but are difficult to maintain – a smaller greenhouse- shed should do the trick.

Office

Most work-from-home jobs require utmost silence as to why sheds are the perfect alternative to the home office room. Since sheds are detached from the main house, you’re likely to expect less incoming noise from your cohabitants.

Besides reduced noise, a decent office shed can only accommodate one person and a few items. You’ll be able to focus more on your work rather than getting distracted by even the most mundane things. Artists and writers are sure to love this idea as they require the most focus and isolation when they’re at work.

Outdoor gym

Instead of wasting a lot of space inside your home, you can place all your gym equipment in a shed and set up an outdoor gym. A workout bench is bad enough to become an eyesore – even worse, an entire set of barbells and dumbbells. This problem is easily solved with an outdoor gym. Other than not overheating during an exercise, an outdoor gym allows you to breathe fresh air after an intense workout.

With all these ideas, sheds are truly versatile. They’re great alternatives, and sometimes they can work better than the original structure. Thankfully, prefabricated sheds are already available in the market, contributing to the ease of making these projects. Always keep in mind to plan carefully and be sure to know what you’re doing.
